# What is a sales call?

In short

**A sales call is a conversation between you and a potential client in which you work out together whether your offer solves their problem, and which ends in a yes, a no or a concrete follow-up appointment.**

Also known as: sales conversation, sales meeting, closing call, consultation call, discovery call.

A sales call is the moment of truth. Your masterclass was good, your emails got opened, someone booked a call. Now they’re sitting across from you. This is where it’s decided whether all that work turns into revenue.

## Why a sales call matters

For programmes worth a few thousand euros, almost nobody buys without a conversation. People want to know who you are, whether you understand their situation and whether it clicks. Your event builds the trust; the sales call finishes the job.

## How a good sales call works

1. **Interview, don’t present.** Ask lots of questions. What’s going on? What have they already tried? What happens if nothing changes?

2. **Summarise.** Show you’ve listened, in their words.

3. **Only then tell.** What you do, hooking into what you just heard.

4. **Ask for a decision.** A yes, a no, or a follow-up appointment with a date.

5. **Pin down the timeline.** “How long do you need? Is it all right if I call you on that date?”

## Where it goes wrong

The expert who talks about their method for twenty minutes before asking a single question. Or the call that ends with “I’ll send you some information” and nothing more. No date, no follow-up, no decision. That’s not a no, but it’s about to become one.

## The OMB view

Sales is interviewing. In a good conversation, the other person thinks afterwards: I only talked about myself. That’s exactly when you tell them what you do, and that’s when it falls into place. A sales call isn’t a trick you have to learn. It’s the logical last step of an event that was built well. And whoever doesn’t have the conversations themselves gets little out of a full room.

Sales call belongs to **Counter: selling and following up**. [This is how the recipe works](https://onlinemarketingbakery.com/en/how-we-work/). Questions

## Questions about sales call.

Is a sales call the same as a sales meeting?

Yes. Whether it's on the phone, on video or across a table, it's the same conversation: the one in which a potential client decides whether to go further with you. Call it what you like, as long as it ends in a decision.

How do you structure a sales call?

Start with questions: what's going on, what have they already tried, what does it cost them if nothing changes? Summarise what you heard. Only then tell them what you do, hooking into their words. Close with a clear question or a follow-up appointment with a date.

How do you ask for the sale without being pushy?

By making it a logical question rather than a trick. If you've listened well and your offer fits, asking whether someone wants to start is simply the next step. It only gets pushy when you're selling something that doesn't fit.

What do you do when someone wants to think about it?

Ask how much time they need and when you can call them. Lock that appointment in straight away. Thinking it over without a date usually gets forgotten.
